  Mixing early day jazz with the musical influences of todays popular music creates a diverse, sophisticated and vibrant blend referred to as Contemporary jazz music. This metamorphosis has been taking place over the past four decades where each decade has blended the previous evolution with current styles, music and instrumentation.

The rationale for this creation was to appeal to the new generation of listeners with modifications and improvements in every aspect of the genre.
Contemporary jazz musicians have their own unique style, yet endeavor to maintain the integrity of the origins of American jazz. Contemporary jazz music focuses on the rhythms and does not incorporate the spontaneity of early day jazz performers.

History

Contemporary jazz music began in the late 1960s with early attempts to fuse together pop music and jazz. Trying to meld the two genres together, bands incorporated electrical instruments such as the guitar, bass guitar and electric piano. Eventually, electric synthesizers were added, which resulted in blending the sounds of jazz with pop music.

Jazz Music - History and Facts Revealed

  The 20th century music world has seen the entry of light and easy listening music with African-American jazz music. Originating in southern USA, jazz music is a combination of African and European music traditions. It puts together the use of blue notes, improvisation, syncopation and swing notes.


Jazz music was first used in reference to music from Chicago early in the 20th century. It has evolved in several other subgenres such as New Orleans Dixieland, big band-style swing, bebop, Afro-Cuban jazz, Brazilian jazz, jazz-rock fusion, and the more recent acid jazz.

The realm of jazz music was and still is predominantly associated with the American black community. These black musicians transitioning from banjos and tambourines learned to play European instruments such as the violin. Black slaves from early America used to sing and play music as a form of spiritual or ritualistic hymns.

The marriage of the meaningful words of an old hymn coupled with the personal impressions and experience of the jazz vocalist or instrumentalist provides for a vibrant expression of faith. It is important to note that Christian jazz music is not a new musical expression of ones faith.


There are three possible benefits of Christian jazz music. They are worship, expression of personal faith and edification of others.

Worship

Christian jazz music is the jazz style of Christian music that has appealed to modern-day worshipers. Worship is deeply embedded in the performers desire to give thanks to God for their talents and express their adoration. Christian jazz music provides a venue for the Christian performer and jazz enthusiast to meet together and express their love for God in a non-traditional, yet unified manner.
